As a Senior Associate to Cornerstone, Mike leads a number of organisational transformation advisory projects with public and private clients. For the public sector this includes strategic narrative development to support change, town centre renewal and top team advisory. With the private sector this includes strategic positioning and relationship building, service alignment and senior capacity building.
Mike’s experience covers a 20-year period working closely with chief executives and senior managers in local government, both as a director of their professional society – SOLACE – and as an independent adviser and consultant.
In the private sector he is a Partner level adviser, working with firms to improve their effectiveness and impact with public sector clients.
In 2020 Mike qualified as an accredited Facet5 coach and is developing his practice coaching and mentoring senior managers.
Mike is also the Director of the Centre of Partnering, a network of UK universities who have come together to explore the value of innovative forms of partnering in procurement and in social policy. He has advised governmental bodies on public sector reform, leadership and governance in the North Africa and the Middle East, sub-Saharan Africa and in Eastern Europe. He is a member of the Editorial Board of Public Money and Management and a member of Cipfa’s International Panel. He was previously an Expert adviser to Centre national de la fonction publique territoriale (France) and an Advisor to Council of Europe’s Committee on Local Democracy. He was awarded the American Society for Public Administration’s Louis Brownlow award for outstanding contribution by an academic and practitioner team.
